| Computer Specs for Air Warrior |
No this page isn't about your computer being short-sighted ;-) It's about your computers specifications and are they big enough to handle these games. Read on and compare and if your computers specs match or are greater than these listed here then you're in for a high frame rate <G>
This version is no longer supported or available to play on Gamestorm.
After the Dos Air Warrior version came this Windows version. It can be played on Win3.1 (with 32bit file), or Win95. It uses the old MS WinG games coding, not DirectX video acceleration like the latest versions, and can be run on a DX4-100 computer, although the frames per sec will be slow, and a Pentium 60MHz+ is recommended. It only requires a basic SVGA video card for the graphics, and is limited to 256 colours only.
Graphics for the terrain are similar to the old Dos terrain, fairly basic, without much detail except for basic fields, cities and factories, and runs in 256 colours only. Aircraft control and engine sounds are included in flight but it has no additional incidental sounds as found on AW2/AW3D. For slower CPUs, 640 x480 resolution is recommended. Suitable for CPU's that won't "cut the mustard" for AW3 in either 2d or 3d.
There is no off-line game as found in the AW2/AW3D full CdRom versions, as it was intended as an on-line multi-player game only, but you can still fly off-line as a solo flight over the terrain, which may be useful to learn the terrain and field locations, but not useful for combat practice.

Basically the same as Air Warrior for Windows. The graphics for the terrain are similar, fairly basic, without much detail except for basic fields, cities and factories, and runs in 256 colours only. One main difference is the ability to be able to use more than one monitor, of course you need a seperate graphics card for each monitor you add.

Air Warrior 3D is basically AW2 but with the added bonus of 3D graphics, and lots of bug fixtures. This new version has two distinct video modes, 2D rendering mode for those without 3D video cards where it looks similar to AW2, and full 3D mode for those with either an addon Voodoo 3dfx 3D card, or a complete 2D/3D card using the Voodoo/Rush, Rage or Permedia chipsets and also the new Matrox G200 series. Older Matrox 3D cards (Mystique) don't support the effects required but can be used in combination with a 3dfx addon card.
In 3D mode with all effects turned on the graphics are awesome, and it also supports full screen cockpit views in high resolution with working instruments. In addition to the superb graphics, network speech is also provided so that players can actually talk to each other on-line via a microphone or headset which makes wing and squadron tactics truely come to life.
The game is either obtainable as a cutdown downloadable version from your Host, excluding Mission Editor and off-line missions, or it can be bought on CD complete with the mission editor, cockpit art etc, from a software retailer.
